Ten miles of America. New York’s Route 5. The Capital District’s “Main Street” between Albany and Schenetady. From city line to city line, it is a ten mile petrie dish of growing and dying American commerce and culture and it represents the best and worse of American culture, the determined vitality that drives our society and the crass commercialism that results. The kitchy old signs are counterpoint to the new franchised slickness and testiment to the ongoing evolution on all our “Main Streets”. A work in progress.
